Having a dental emergency? Start here.

If you are in pain, bleeding, or have just lost or broken a tooth, call our emergency line at (805) 749-4930 . We hold same-day capacity in the schedule for urgent cases and will get you in as quickly as possible.

While you wait, the following can help.

Knocked-out adult tooth. Pick up the tooth by the crown, not the root. Rinse it gently with milk or saline (do not scrub). If possible, place it back in the socket and hold it in place. If not, store it in milk and come in within 30 to 60 minutes for the best chance of saving it.

Severe toothache. Rinse with warm salt water. Take ibuprofen if you can tolerate it. Do not place aspirin directly on the gum, it can burn the soft tissue. A cold compress on the outside of the cheek can help with swelling.

Broken or chipped tooth. Save any fragments in a small container with milk or saline. Rinse your mouth with warm water. If the broken edge is sharp, cover it with dental wax or a small piece of sugar-free gum to protect your tongue and cheek until you arrive.

Lost filling or crown. Keep the area clean. If you still have the crown, store it safely and bring it with you. We can often re-cement an existing crown rather than replace it.

Soft-tissue injury to the lip, tongue, or cheek. Apply firm pressure with clean gauze for 10 to 15 minutes. If bleeding does not slow, go to the nearest emergency room.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a referral to schedule with Avra Dental? No. Call us directly at (805) 941-1001 or book online.

What if I have not seen a dentist in years? That is one of the most common situations we see. There is no judgment and no lecture. We start with a comprehensive exam, digital X-rays, and a cleaning, then walk you through anything that needs attention in priority order. The $220 New Patient Special covers your first visit at one transparent price.

Is the $220 New Patient Special really all-in? Yes. It includes a comprehensive exam, a professional cleaning, and a full set of digital X-rays. There are no surprise add-ons. If additional treatment is recommended, you will receive a written, itemized estimate before anything is scheduled.

Do you see children? Yes. We see patients of all ages for routine cleanings, exams, and preventive care.

Do you accept walk-ins? For dental emergencies, yes, call (805) 749-4930 first so we can prepare for you. For routine appointments, calling ahead is the fastest way to secure a same-week slot.

What if I am nervous about going to the dentist? A large share of our patients come to us after a difficult experience elsewhere. We move at your pace, explain what we are doing before we do it, and stop when you ask us to. Mention it when you call and we will plan extra time for your first visit.

Do you offer Saturday or evening appointments? Our regular hours are Monday to Friday, 9 to 5. The emergency line (805) 749-4930 is available outside those hours for urgent cases.
